The car was purchased for Rs 2 lakh from a dealer in Faridabad, with a Jammu and Kashmir driving license submitted as documentation. The payment was made entirely in cash. Forensic analysis revealed that 60 percent of the exhibits related to the I20 car helped solve the mystery behind the blast. Thin wires found at the site suggested the use of a timer linked to the detonator and fuel oil to trigger the explosion.​
